About The Maker: The artist, James, is a Syracuse, NY based PhD geoscientist who loves to work with maps. The products in the Vintage Topographic Map series represent high-quality reproductions of vintage USGS topographic quadrangles from the late-1800s to the mid-1900s. The majority of reproductions in this series are mosaics, which means two or more original maps were stitched together to make a new map. In addition to the mosaic process, the maps are digitally restored using a range of techniques, such as: Color correction and text enhancement; Fixing tears, seams, and folds; Removing JPEG and other scanning artifacts; General touch-ups and aesthetic augmentations.
