Recently someone told me they thought of me when t Recently someone told me they thought of me when they picked up one of these Body Armor drinks. They said it looked healthy so they bought it and wanted to know what I thought because they started having doubts while they were drinking it, tasted how sweet it was and began reading the label. So here is a video of me pouring out the amount of added sugar (6.5 teaspoons) from the drink container into a bowl to show you just how much sugar 6.5 teaspoons is and discuss how this product has been marketed to make consumers think it’s a healthier option 😂🤪.

One of the craziest obstacles we all face in the battle for our own health is marketing. Whether it’s products or people or websites, there is so much out there for us to navigate to determine what’s “good”. My advice? Always be curious and look past the facade! Scroll right to see some more takeaways.

The first time I heard about food as medicine, I w The first time I heard about food as medicine, I was young. I can’t remember just how young, but I was definitely young enough where I was more of a hinderance than a help in the kitchen. I have always loved hanging out in the kitchen and as a kid I was always allowed to. Back then, my Nana would be peeling ginkgo nuts or preparing mugs with ginseng root to steep in the water she had boiling on the stove. Despite my age, she would always take the time to tell me what she was preparing and what it was “good for”. She continued to do this during the duration of our time together and it was always fascinating. She was fascinating. She went to college in the 1940s, was a working mother of 5 and immigrated to a new country to spend the last 1/3 of her life. Family, kindness and health were always so important to her. She was the most amazing, gentle woman and I’m sure as I age I will continue to see new ways in which she has influenced my life.

I was shuffling through this deck of affirmation cards I had just ordered for the office and the first time I saw this one, I felt the pressure mounting behind my eyes. When they had passed what they knew about food as medicine and Chinese medicine on to my grandmother who in turn shared it with me, I wonder if my great grandmother or her mother ever in a million years would have imagined my modern life that has been impacted by them the way I sometimes wonder what their lives looked like day to day. What we put out there leading up to the end is so important, it becomes our legacy through those who we share it with. The best part is that through our words and actions, we get to decide what our legacy will be!

I had a ton of greens and herb plants in here last year and nothing really thrived. It was just too crowded. This spring, these little guys surprised me and came back from last year and started to fill the container. Then lately with the heat and constant sun they were getting damaged and I thought they may not make it. After adhering to a few tips from people I had seen successfully growing their lettuce, mine started to thrive as well! This has been a metaphorical in a way, and yes I am about to compare this season in my life to some butter lettuce😂

Focus on cultivating fewer things: I’ve simplified my life so much over the last few months. This has included less “stuff”, better, deeper conversations that have lead to stronger relationships, clearer values and a unique niche as well as figuring out what things I really, truly need + enjoy.
•
Figure out the kind of nurturing that’s needed to thrive: I am thankful to know so many people who are kind, savvy, helpful, creative and fueled by a passion who have shared ideas, encouragement and advice. I couldn’t imagine doing life or business without an amazing community full of support from loved ones and mentors who have helped me find the right conditions to thrive.

Lastly, don’t forget the water. 😉
Something that has kept me fueled with healthy mea Something that has kept me fueled with healthy meals is prepping components of meals vs. full meals so I can make whatever I am in the mood to eat with minimal effort. I minimally prep by cookings things like brown rice or quinoa, grilled or roasted veggies and proteins. While the foods that need to cook do so, I wash and chop a variety of veggies and herbs, make dressings/sauces etc and then I store everything in separate containers. This method allows me to have plenty of options so I’m not stuck eating the same meal prepped meal or two all week! When I do need to eat or pack a meal, it takes me less than five minutes to make things like omelets, bowls, a wrap or salad and no two meals are ever the same based on what I choose to incorporate! 😬🤙🏽🥗🍲🌯🍛

A quick little summer pizza?! Yes pls! Toast up an A quick little summer pizza?! Yes pls! Toast up any flatbread or crust. While it’s toasting, drizzle a little bit of olive oil and some fresh lemon juice over a big handful of arugula and toss to coat. Spread a layer of hummus on the crust. Top with arugula, tomatoes, shaved Parmesan and black pepper. To make it vegan, swap the parm for some toasted pine nuts 😍 other great combos would be swapping the lemon juice for balsamic and the parm for blue cheese and walnuts! I haven’t had arugula in a minute but was excited to get some in my @off_the_muck_market box this week along with the tomatoes and lemon! It is rich in vitamins A + C. What are you excited to eat that reminds you of summer?!
